Birmingham FA 4–1 Shropshire FA
(Farquharson 5', Lonsdale 54' & 48', Dodd 45') - (Sutton 37')

Two late goals sealed maximum points for Birmingham County FA in this afternoon's Midland Youth Championship fixture against Shropshire County FA at County HQ, Great Barr.

The game started brightly for the home side who were a goal up within 6 minutes. Lonsdale's cross found an outstretched Farquharson and although Shropshire's Steven Bray was quick to react, the Bedworth United player's shot was out of his reach.

Exciting play from Lonsdale and Farquharson tested the Shropshire defence, but the visitors battled hard for a well deserved equaliser. It came in the 37th minute when Ed Sutton's perfectly weighted header left Bret Clowes stranded.

Birmingham Captain, Adam Hughes delivered a teasing corner just before halftime, but Lonsdale missed his chance to snatch back the advantage arriving in the area a split second too late. Sutton's Sean Findlay replaced Leamington's McKinley during the break.

The two 'keepers needed to have good performances in their respective goals, but after seeing his previous attempts saved, Lonsdale made sure in the 54th minute blasting a shot high into the top of the net.

Farquharson made way for Josh Tolley's fresh legs just before the hour mark, at a time when most of Birmingham's energy was being used to defend their own goal. Shropshire created chances after being given the space to do so - Clowes called into action a number of times.

Sensing the threat, Hughes tightened his defence and kept their visitors at bay, whilst at the other end Dodd and Lonsdale took advantage by scoring two excellent goals in the 45th and 48th minutes respectively.

Dodd took the ball round two defenders from the right wing, Lonsdale from the left - both slotting home strikes that put Birmingham at the top of Group B in the Midland Counties Youth Championships with 6 points from their two games, and with 3 more fixtures to follow later this season.
