Worcester FA 1-0 Birmingham FA

Birmingham's U18 squad suffered a narrow defeat to Worcestershire after failing to capitalise on numerous chances in the second round of their Midland Counties Youth Championship Campaign yesterday.

Marconi (Coventry)'s Matty O'Rourke was given an early opportunity to score in the third minute after a great ball was put through to him from North Birmingham College's Craig Hancox - but O'Rourke lifted the ball over the bar.

Soon after, the Birmingham Defence failed to deal with a second successive corner, which was drilled in past Paget Rangers' 'Keeper, Matty Harris. Kidderminster Harriers' Richard Langford had another chance to draw his side level before the break, but saw his shot go wide.

Despite dominating the second period, Birmingham could not capitalise on the chances they created - a problem which Team Spokesperson, Steve Poole insists they must improve on before December 1st's trip to Wiltshire in the FA County Youth Cup 3rd Round Tie:

"The performance and work rate was fine, but we lacked the final touch," said Poole. "We have to put the result behind us now - the squad is good enough to bounce back and learn from this defeat."

Poole was also quick to remind the side of how the defeat may be a good omen for Birmingham:

"The last time we lost at Worcestershire, we went on to win the treble - let's hope history repeats itself!"
