Birmingham FA 2-0 Hednesford Town

A new look Birmingham side took the field for the first game of the season which hopefully will see them regain that treasured possession; the FA County Youth Cup.

It took the Birmingham side time to settle against a young but skillful Hednesford. The only first half real chance fell to the visitors but Tom Kendall reacted well to tip the ball over the bar.

Manager Martin Sweeney switched the side around at half time and within six minutes they created their first real chance. Josh Tolley collected the ball and delivered a first time cross which Sol Griffiths managed to hit both bar and post before the ball was scrambled away. Two minutes later Adam Hughes who before the game was named as skipper for the season collected a pass from Tolley. His crossfield pass to Simon Fitter his first touch cross was finished by Nick Kyriacou.

Tolley was also involved in the second goal, his pass inside to Paul Bonar enabled the midfielder to find the unmarked Griffiths in space to volley pass the Hednesford keeper.

"Once again we find ourselves searching far and wide throughout the County for a team to regain the FA Cup," said Team Spokesman, Steve Poole.

"The players did well today - now they have the shirts I hope their performance will allow them to keep them for the remainder of the season!"
