Sutton Coldfield Town's Dean Perrow had a dream start in his first game for Birmingham FA as they found themselves having to dig deep for their victory in the 3rd Round of the FA County Youth Cup at the weekend. Perrow's shot from left of the area, converting Scott Lower's pass put Birmingham 1-0 up in as early as the 8th minute. Lower had his own attempt on goal in the 20th minute, but the Kidderminster Harrier saw his shot scrambled away. Having been a relative spectator in the first half, Matty Harris found himself a much busier man in the second half as Wiltshire came out much stronger. The Paget Rangers' 'Keeper made two fine saves early on, but could not stop Wilding bundling his attempt over the line on the 69th minute. Harris was beaten again just 9 minutes later after a speculative shot from Banks, but kept his side in with a chance after a superb save from Macey's strike. Birmingham looked doomed as the last minutes of the game elapsed - only for that chance to fall to Perrow. In the first minute of added time, he seized on a loose ball and lobbed a shot over the advancing Grubb. Determined to make the most of extra time, Birmingham dug deep. Kidderminster's Richard Langford launched a number of useful crosses into the box - the best being hooked over the bar by Perrow in the 99th minute. It was Langford who restored Birmingham's lead in the 13th minute of extra time after Phil Garner's pass found him unmarked - beating Grubb in the Wiltshire goal at the second attempt. Birmingham had chances in the final 15 minutes - the best from substitute, Matty O'Rourke who combined with skipper Chris Woodhall to shoot narrowly wide. However, the priority was to hold onto the precious lead and secure a place in the last eight against either Middlesex or East Riding. Team Spokesman, Steve Poole said: "Richard Langford's goal was just reward for his display - but we were looking down a barrel before Deano scored late-on. Once again, we survived when it looked like we were out - so credit must go to the whole squad," he added. |
