Part of the UAS (possibly the best part!) is social. As mentioned before, we have a training night every Thursday, where a visiting speaker comes and gives an talk on anything from the Red Arrows to Wine Tasting (very educational). After the talk there is a chance for students to ask the speaker questions, and find out a bit more about his or her topic. The bar is also open for the evening where you can get to know the other members of the squadron and have a chat with the instructors. Transport is provided both to and from the training nights, and Aberdeen and Dundee students can stay overnight in the Officers' mess and travel home in the morning.
Perhaps the most important part of our year is the Annual Dinner. This is an opportunity to show our appreciation to senior members of the RAF and our universities. It is usually in March, and although very formal, is a lot of fun. We also have several informal events throughout the year - recently we have had a Pimps and Prostitutes night, Christmas ball, Burns Supper, Beach Party Theme night (only two items of clothing allowed) and Spring Ball - to name but a few! The social life is up to you, the more you put in the better it gets.
