ADStAUAS, Members Area

So what now? We recruit new students during the Freshers weeks at the various universities. If you would like to apply, you can visit us then. You can get information about when and where we will be at your university by telephoning us. We do have a leaflet and an application form which you can telephone us for during the rest of the year.

What about the application process? This is how it works:

Preliminary Interview

When you visit us at the Freshers fair, you will fill in an application form (unless you have done so already), and will have a short (5-10 min) interview with one of our instructors. You will then be asked to call the squadron a few days later to see if you were successful.

Second Interview

If you get through the first interview, you will be invited to our squadron for a look around and a second longer interview. This interview is not too frightening you will be pleased to hear! You will have a talk with two of our staff who will ask a bit about you, your life, your thoughts about various current affairs and your knowledge of the RAF.

Medical

If you passed the second interview, you will be asked to go for a medical at RAF Cranwell in Linconshire. Your travel will be paid for by the RAF. The medical includes an eye test which is more in depth than examinations you may have had before, and if you are applying as a pilot (rather than as Nav or Ground) the test is very thorough.

If you manage to run the gauntlet and get in, you should be proud of yourself. The competition is always very intense: far too many people for the places available.

If you don't get in, don't take it personally! We have a lot of applicants for a very limited number of places. Some of our current students did not get in the first time, but did get in the second time, so don't be afraid to apply again. Applying for a second time actually shows a lot of determination, and will put you in a good position to get in.
