Each student, on starting at ADStAUAS is issued with a flying suit and helmet, along with non-flying uniform. Once interviews have been completed and medicals passed, students can start the flying syllabus. This consists of several different topics as follows:

1 Introduction and basic general handling.
2 Circuit flying around the airfield, leading to the first solo.
3 Circuit consolidation flying, incl, several solo trips.
4 Practice landings into fields, steep turns and aerobatics.
5 Instrument flying
6 Navigation
7 Formation flying

There are also several exam flights, designed to check whether you know enough to progress to the next point in the syllabus. There is also a Final Handling Test at the end of the syllabus that will have some input into your streaming (fast jet, rotary or multi) if you end up joining the RAF.
