Welcome to the Transvaal Study Circle Web Page!
Aims of the Study Circle
The Transvaal Study Circle was formed in 1965 to promote all aspects of philately related to the pre-South African colonies of the Transvaal and the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek (Z.A.R.). We have an international membership with particular concentrations of members in the U.K. and South Africa.
Members interests cover postage stamps, postal history, and revenue stamps as well as a number of more specialist areas such as railway stamps. Regular meetings are held, and members regularly participate in philatelic exhibitions and shows at all levels.
The society publishes a quarterly bulletin, The Transvaal Philatelist, and is responsible either directly or in a supporting role for the publication of specialist memoirs. A longer term aim is the publication of a Handbook of Transvaal philately. A list of the current publications and their prices are shown below.
Membership Information
Membership of the Study Circle costs £10 per year, and members receive The Transvaal Philatelist as well as a discount on other publications.
For more information, contact either Rick Turner in the U.K. or Gawie van der Walt in South Africa.

This is the journal of the Transvaal Study Circle. It is published four times a year and is free to members.
The Transvaal Philatelist is listed in the standard catalogues under ISSN 0267-789X.
The following section provides the Table of Contents of each volume. The order of listing of articles has been reorganised slightly to collect any philatelic articles into one group and other items (mostly society business) into another group.
Not all the material is ready at the moment - items that have been converted to HTML format are shown as active links. Other items are pending. Most of the articles are currently online as text only - I don't have decent copies of many of the illustrations (yet!) to include.
Note that none of the links will work from the Internet - you need the copy on disk from the Society.
