Published by Manchester and Lancashire
FHS (1999) in five sections on twelve microfiche, covering
the whole of the British Isles.[2]
An index to soldiers of British army regiments, Royal
marines and the Honourable East India Company's Service
who deserted their units and whose names were published
in the Police Gazette between 1 January 1828-31
December 1840. The names below are for Matlock men who
deserted.

| 2. Lunacy Returns, 1828 |
Michael Spencer writes that Lunacy
Returns were listed in Quarter Sessions. Below are those
from 1828; they were not listed in 1831, possibly having
either died or moved elsewhere.[3]
- James RAWSON 50 lunatic, dangerous at times, disordered
19 yrs. In Ashover Poor House since February 1809. Parish
expence six shillings per week
- Maria BEASTAL 72 lunatic, not dangerous, disordered
12 yrs. In Ashover Poor House since June 1818. Parish
expence six shillings per week
