Rainbow Serpent festival - Vj show and emotional interactive 06-01-03.

Projectors to be rigged securely as shown, an umbrella will be attached to the hanging bracket to shield it.

The screens will be made of multiple split sails.

To ensure correct projection, it is important to follow the following diagram. The screen must be perpendicular to the projection path.

The focal range of the projector is just under 2 metres.

It is important to allow for the right amount of throw distance from the projector to the screen. In this example I have allowed 11 metres for a screen that is 6 metres wide. The aspect ratio of the video screen is 4:3 so that would mean the height of the 3 screens is 4 m.

Note that each sail must align with the next. Simply ensure that the poles marked with orange arrows are parallel with the projection path and as close together as possible. The further apart the screen the more noticable the zoom will be.

You can see the video screen in the correct ratio from front on. The 3 sails are at different lengths to compensate for their angles so the total surface area is actually more than 6 x 4 meters. But their combined width and height complies with the 4:3 aspect ration of video, making up the projection screen. This allows the screen to catch the projection, without distortion or clipping.

A great thing about having the screens set up in this way is that each surface can be projected onto individually allowing chaser sequences to be made. Or one image can simply map all three screens. During the day they will provide shade. The poles could be decorated with the beautiful twisted branches from the forest floor and painted. The separate sails still allow you to walk between them.

To give the screen material some support from the wind, tight, spaced (20cm) pieces of wire (~1.25 mm gague) will be used to create a fence between the two poles. The screen is then weaved through the wire providing a support in both direction. The material will actually bow with the pressure from the wind to create small waves. They arent noticable once the projection is on the surface.

You can see from this angle that it is important to have the sails aligned correctly. To ensure the front sails dont block the one behind, and the back sail does not block the veiw of the other two.

EMOTIONAL INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCE IDEA #2

It was decided that the original structure to house the emotional interactive performance would be to big to build for the time available and the budget. To ensure that the project can be realised a smaller structure will be setup on the floor.

The structure will simply be an upside down T shape 1.2m high, consisting of three platforms about 70 cm x 70 cm. The two performers may simply sit on the platforms on some comfy rugs. The third platform will provide a platform for incense and a geometric structure made of piping or conduit. The geometric structure will still contain the light discussed in the original idea that turns on in esponse to empathy measured between the two performers.

A door with a lock will allow access to the computer. Power , midi and audio will connect to the PC within the box (about 30 metres away). The leads will be buried in the dance floor and connect to the stage. The ecg leads will connect to the Heart tuner inside the box.
