Choose one or modify them to suit... Olaf Meyer is an experimental animator with a focus on experimental human-computer interaction, in both animation and environment. Using imagery and material from both the real and the virtual worlds; light, wood, sound, person and animation are brought together as a true manifestation of the term 'multimedia'. Solo exhibitions see his work presented with the intention to evoke trance on the audience. Inspired by mind power research, effects such as strobe and tempo are used to stimulate the body's own natural biorhythms. Olaf has been pushing animation from the screen to the performance space. Developing custom movement-sensing hardware and real-time video composition software, with OISHII Multimedia Melbourne, and support from RMIT Union Arts. Olaf has exhibited work at the National gallery of Victoria, and as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival, and part of this year's Next Wave Festival. His work is a prominent part of Melbourne's Dance Party Events, such as Two Tribes, Hardware, Every picture Tells A Story, Welcome 2000, Apollo Festival. ___________________ In my work I aim to take images to areas of the mind where the pixies crawl. Bright colours and mathematical patterns amongst images of past, future and always. Computers are toys, interfaces are ours. Video art to me is a world where . "Lets not forget that there are also many undesirable side-effects that interface from a machine to the human body, including radiation damage, air pollution, magnetic field interference. A good human-interfacing machine will only selectively manipulate/respond to the intended effects of human sense, body and mind manipulation." - Is it only a dream to see technology and nature in balance, as one system. ______________ Olaf has been actively exhibiting his work at installations at many of Melbourne's Local and International rave events since 1996 including Hardware, Every picture Tells a Story, Innovator, Trade and Ministry of sound. As well as providing eye-opening installations at parties, he has also shown his experience at more cultural levels including exhibitions with the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Fringe and Next Wave festivals. Olaf is influenced by Trance music and hypnosis and sees video as a powerful communication device. He loves brightly coloured geometric patterns and makes them move through futuristic imagery in all sorts of ways with all sorts of devices. With support from many like-minded people Olafs creations cover topics of interaction between human and machine, real-time 'control and response' and non-linear story development. __________________
