The Band
The Max Lager's New Orleans Stompers was formed in 1979 playing Traditional jazz in the spirit of clarinettist George Lewisand trumpeter Bunk Johnson without trying to copy those great jazz legends in note for note fashion. Today, those New
Orleans styled stompers are great jazz artists in their field, making the Max Lager's New Orleans Stompers one of the leading
bands in Sweden. The homebase of the stompers is at the Jazzhuset (The Jazz House) in the popular jazz festival town of
Gothenburg, Sweden. The band makes regular tours within Sweden, throughout other Scandinavian countries, and travels to
various other well known jazz venues in Europe. It had the honours of playing at the opening of the Happy Jazzclub Storyville,
in Helsinki, Finland. The band has become very popular here in the U.K. and regularly attends the jazz festivals of the Isle of
Bute in Scotland, Upton-upon-Severn in the West Country, Keswick in the North East, Bude in Cornwall and
Hemsby in Norfolk.
Recordings
The band has recorded for the GHB label in New Orleans, USA, for the Swedish National Broadcasting Corporation, atthe Jazzhuset, Gothenburg with artists including Sammy Rimington, and, this year (1998), their latest CD was recorded
in the UK, entitled "Max Lager's New Orleans Stompers with Orange Kellin."
