There are several
places in the Society's area of which we have not so far attempted to write a history. We
have done Alcester, Spernall, Kinwarton, Coughton, Arrow and Haselor. However Studley,
Sambourne, Bidford, Great Alne, Salford Priors, Weethley and Morton Bagot, we have not
done. It is very pleasing that the Reverend Frank Wain, for many years parish priest of
Great Alne and Haselor, put together notes on the history of Great Alne:
In his retirement he has put these together in a very readable history of the parish and the county library service has done us all a favour in photocopying a number of copies and providing hard-backed covers. Alcester Library has several copies in its splendid 'local history' section. Frank Wain (incidentally, a Society member) has helped to reduce the gaps in the list above. We await with anticipation the emergence of someone to take on another place in the list.
Mr. Cyril
Johnson, a devoted Society member and the second chairman, recently retired from the staff
of Alcester Grammar School, where he had spent many fruitful years. We know that his
retirement will be spent in a very positive way.
Mr. Cullum of
Studley, one of our members, died recently and we offer his family our condolences. His
interest in Studley, and in particular the parish church, was very deep and much of his
knowledge was committed to print.
