Mrs Alice Godfrey

When I was young, in the early 30s, we used to spend most of our Saturday nights at Arrow Village Hall social We always walked there and enjoyed this, especially on a moonlight night. We all walked back together to Alcester at midnight, very happily, and probably pretty noisily.

The event started with 12 hands of Whist and there were really good prizes. Then refreshments were served with lemonade by Mrs. Smart and Mrs. Hewlett. After these, the older people went home and the younger ones stayed to play games and dance. We always had a two-piece band, drums with either violin, accordion or piano. Some of the musicians were Lionel Jones, Basil Smith, Laurence Clark and Gordon Hobbs. It was always well attended and the tiny hall was packed.

I am not sure who organised the socials or where the profits went but I think they must have been for Arrow Village Hall funds.
