A page from a 1927 Guide to Alcester, called, as most of them do 'The Official Guide'.
What makes local guides 'official' one does not know. What is unhappily true is that most of them are economical with the truth' in their history sections: legends and suppositions are so often stated as facts. The advertisements they contain usually have more sober fact than the historical articles. These adverts on the left for 1927 to two firms which do not now exist. The Needle-makers Society was the building at the top of Malt Mill Lane opposite Malt Mill House. George Clark was situated where Coulter's now is and was the successor to Clark's of Arrow, the celebrated coach makers.
