A Society Meeting
for Your Diary 13th November 1991, at the Greig Hall, Alcester at 8 p.m.
This is a Wednesday and the speaker is Mr. Cyrill Johnson, an ex-Chairman of the Society, speaking on The Alcester Gas, Light and Coke Company, a potent influence on the life of the town in the 19th century.
In 1641 Alcester
Market Hall (now called the Town Hall) was finally completed. 1991 is therefore the 350th
anniversary of one of the town's chief landmarks. The Town Hall Committee is setting aside
the evening of Friday, September 20th to 4 p.m. on Sunday for an exhibition on the upper
floor. The A.D.L.H.S. is playing a small part therein with a display of photographs.
Several other individuals are mounting displays of their own.
The afternoon of
Sunday, 15th September will see a party from the Wellesbourne' Local History Group roaming
the streets of Alcester. They will be led by members of A.D.L.H .S. -- anyone else
interested is invited to tag on.
Those' who have
put their names down (the 'Subscribers') for a copy of 'The Book of Alcester' (Barracuda
Press) are asked to be patient. Until the number of subscribers reaches a certain number,
the publishers will not print the book. lt now seems more likely that the book will appear
in the new year rather than before Christmas. New subscribers are invited to add their
names to the list in Alcester Library.
