Church Guides
In the last couple of years three of Alcester's religious bodies have turned to publishing
guides to their churches. Firstly, the Roman Catholics brought out 'Our Lady & St.
Joseph, Alcester and SS. Peter & Paul & St. Elizabeth, Coughton', a description of
the two churches and of some of the events and personalities connected with them.
Secondly, the Baptists published 'The Alcester Baptist Story', tracing the history of the
sect from the 17th century to the present day, again with some of the personalities
connected with the Church Street chapel.
Thirdly, the Editor has recently re-written the church guide to St. Nicholas parish church, at the invitation of the P.C.C. This is chiefly a description of the building, aimed mainly at out-of-town visitors. It may be published during 1990.
Archaeology Day
September 22nd this year (1990) is being kept as 'Archaeology Day?
throughout the country and our society has been invited to do something We have various
ideas and will almost certainly organise an event; this will be detailed in the Autumn
'Local Past? -- in the meantime, why not mark Sept. 22nd, a Saturday, in your diary as a
date to keep free.
Edgehill Battle Museum
This is a suggestion for the summer holidays. The Museum is to the east
of Stratford Upon Avon, near Famborough and somewhat to the east of Edgehill Battlefield
(16~?); it is on the Warks/Oxon border. The museum is open on Wednesday and Saturday
afternoons and is part of Famborough Hall. The countryside is most attractive and
refreshments may be obtained at the museum.

Some people would prefer to have 'L.P.' sent to them each quarter rather than find it sold
out in one of the local shops we are glad to accommodate them. £1-6O, plus 96p postage
(£2.56) will guarantee your copies for the next four quarters If you decide to do this,
please indicate on which quarter you wish to start and send cheque to the Editor Society
members get theirs a little cheaper, viz. £1-2O plus 96p (£2.16)

Family History Centre
The Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) has done a
good turn to local historians and family history seekers It has opened a centre at 321,
Evesham Road, Crabbs Cross, Redditch, open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays
from 9.30 am to 12.45 p.m. and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6.30 p.m. to 9
p.m. (N.B. these are the 1990 opening times)
The Centre holds the latest edition of the I.G.I. for the whole world, including, of course every English county It also has microfilm copies of registration indexes for England and Wales at St. Catherine's House, London, as well as 1841-188l census indexes.
