In 1989 the Countryside Commission announced that a new National Forest would be centred on the Midlands. In response to that, the County and District Councils of Warwickshire have produced a document 'The New Forest of Arden', now in the library. We also have the new 20 volume edition of the Oxford English Dictionary; it is the largest and most authoritative dictionary of the English language - it provides a historical record of the development and change of meaning of each word. 'Birmingham's Working Horses' by Bryan Holden (pub. Barbryn Press) is a celebration of horse-drawn days, containing a superb collection of vintage photographs. Brewin Books of Studley (publishers. of the Society's 'Alcester - A History'; have published 'Building Britain's Canals', by David Gladwin~ This fully illustrated book explains how Britain's canals were built and will appeal to those enthusiasts who would further information on the history of canals.
