From April 1st,
the Library Service is to merge with the County Record Office and the Museum Service. The
new department will be under the control of the County Librarian, Mr. Henry, and will
comprise two wings: Libraries and Arts and Heritage. Mr. M. Farr, County Archivist, has
just retired and his successor is to start shortly.
To add to
Alcester's microfiche collection, we now have some local monumental inscriptions: these
have been prepared by Birmingham and Midlands Society for Genealogy and Heraldry. The
churches covered are Binton, Henley in Arden, Norton Bagot, Ullenhall, Welford on Avon and
Wootton Wawen. The library, of course, holds a full set of our Society's own graveyard
inscriptions recordings for our area, complete with surname index.
The latest
publication from Warwickshire Books' (the official publisher to Warwickshire County
Council) is 'We wore what we'd got', an interesting look at women's clothes in World War
II. On sale at libraries at £4.95.
Two other
publications which may be of interest: 'Requiem For A Red Box' (Telephone kiosks) by J.
Timpson: 'Midland Tithe Barns' by M. J. A. Beacham, also on sale at £4.95.(The publisher
is our own, K.A.F. Brewin)
