9th London International Festival of Theatre

In three weeks time 300 artists from across the world will be flying into London to take part in the 9th London International Festival of Theatre. From Hammersmith to Bromley-by-Bow and Battersea to Camden, London will host 21 productions from 17 countries.

There's so much packed into 4 weeks, that if the choice seems

overwhelming a quick introduction to what's on offer might help you make up your mind!

World class international companies include

· the Deutsches Schauspielhaus from Hamburg with STUNDE NULL (p.9) - a monumental piece of German theatre from Christoph Marthaler, one of Europe's most originM and imaginative theatre directors

· Gesher Theatre from Israel with Joshua Sobol's K'FAR- The Village (p.6) - a taste of world theatre at its very best, of which The Observer said "You'd be mad to miss it"

Participation - performances in which you take a leading role From Colombia comes ORACULOS (p.10) - a solo sensory journey in which a host of guides wiH gently lead you through 26 chambers in a labyrinth ifiled with encounters of every kind: "your perceptions are heightened in a process more effective than any drug" Liberation

· The world expert on olive oil, Alicia Rios, has created LA FERIA DE LOS CINCO SENTIDOS a gastronomic experience in which art gallery, theatre and Mediterranean market combine to reward your tastebuds!

· From Britain, TEA present NOW & AGAIN (p.22) - an opportunity for you to be part of their film chronicle of real Soho life

· From Argentina, DE LA CUARDA (p 5) - see this week's Time Out - THE hottest show in town this Summer!

· UN PEU PLUS DE LUMIERE (p.4) - the world's leading pyrotechnician, former member of Els Comediants and mastermind behind the closing ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics, will turn night into day for you on Saturday 7 June in Battersea Park.

· UTSHOB (p.23) - a spectacular open air event at Trinity Buoy Wharf, on the River Thames. You'll wander through batik canopies, into buildings flooded with sand, as 250 young people celebrate and commemorate 50 years since the Independence of the Indian Subcontinent
