The Cotswolds
 |
The Cotswolds is Britains largest area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering nearly 800 square miles, and is regarded by many as the most beautiful part of England. Dry stone walls cross the patchwork of fields and dipping valleys. Its heritage of superb limestone buildings, ancient market squares and winding country lanes stand as a reminder to bygone days of wealth created by the wool trade. Cotswold villages such as Bibury, Chipping Campden |
and Bourton on the Water are now world famous for typifying the peaceful way of English country life. Many lesser known villages hide secrets just waiting to be discovered by the traveller. Thatched cottages, meandering streams, stone bridges, tranquil woods and flowering glades are just some of the characteristics which make the Cotswolds so charming and timeless.
Shakespere Country
 |
North of the Cotswolds is Shakespere Country , an area rich in culture.
Stratford-upon-Avon, with its elegant river setting, theatres and gardens, offers a variety of
activities, and the castles at Warwick and Kenilworth are exhilarating experiences.
Royal Leamington Spa's tree-lined avenues and impressive terraces of Regency and Victorian
houses complements its splendid shopping. |
Bath and Wiltshire
 |
The unspoilt landscape of Wiltshire is as varied as any in Britain, ranging from the
majestic Wiltshire Downs to lovely tracts of open land including Pewsey Vale and
Salisbury Plain. The county has the highest concentration of prehistoric sites in Europe
including Stonehenge and Avebury. Salisbury Cathedral has the tallest cathedral
spire in England and Longleat House boasts the worlds largest maze. |
Wiltshire is also
famouse for its white horses cut into the chalk hillsides and with the beautiful spa town of
Bath with its museum of fashion and Roman Baths to the West and The Chilterns and The Thames Valley to the east you are really
spoilt for choice in this county of contrast.
Cornwall
NEW FOR 1999 THE LIZARD PENINSULLA
 |
The Lizard Peninsula, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is physically separate from the
backbone of Cornwall. It is an area of contrasting scenery from the softer greens of the east
to the more rugged landscape around the coast of Mullion. |
For those who like to get away from
the Hum Drum of everyday life The Lizzard is 'off the beaten track'. A wildlife sanctuary where
seals, basking sharks and dolphins are common sights along the coast and rare birds can be seen
in the miles of hedgerows.
