How to get a site up and running for free
- You need some web space, you have probably got some from your ISP
(internet service provider) e.g AOL but if you havn't there are lots
of companys that offer you free space all you havve to do is have a link to them
Xoom is the
best you get 11mb of space and loads of help, useful links and the Easybuilder
which makes pages for you to a set format, great to get you started.
The only drawback is that they do not support CGI "common gatway interface"
If you havn't heard of it there is nothing to worry about, it is a special language
that runs from the web server rather than being down loaded.
- OK you have got your web space now you need some content, if you use Xoom you
can use Easy Page Builder make you first web page.
If you are using a different web space provider they probably offer an exquivelent
- You have built your first page which told your vistors to "come back soon" and know you have
to make something for them to see.
You have a choice; either a or b
a)use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) creator
which like Frontpage Express with IE4 (internet Explorer 4) or Netscape composor with Netscape Communicator
The full version of Frontpage is called Frontpage Express and is avaliable for $92.45 if you wish to
Buy it
b)you use a text editor to make a page if you intend to learn HTML the language of web pages.
If so go to HTML goodies
- You have a web page but it's on your computer, you want it on the internet.
If you are using IE4 you can use the Web Publishing wizard but this is really
just a neat FTP programme that tries to detect your web space provider.
Anyway you need an FTP programme to "upload" your page, you can get this from the same place you got your web
space form e.g Xoom, your ISP should have given
you one as part of your software package, like "Terapin FTP".
This will ask you for some information, to locate your webspace Provider
I have used Text editors on all my pages as these lets you use all HTML tags and Java etc.
All you need is a text editor (like notepad which comes with windows 95) so it is unlikely that you will need to by any software
Generally i think that text editors are the best, it is oftern easier
to learn HTML then learn how to use the software!
When I got Internet Explorer 4 which comes with Fronpage Express
I did install it, it is vey usefull to help write a page as you do not have to use
HTML or equivalent but it leaves out lots of imortant features
which means you have to use HTML scripting for many features. It also slows the load time of your page by altering the HTML that you have already done.
This is a WYSIWYG editor but these do have their use' even though I
Gnerally think that text editors are the best as it is oftern easyer
to learn HTML then learn how to use the software.
Another big disdvantage with the WYSIWYG editors is that they are not very efficent in coding HTML
so the pages they genarate take longer to load as they do not have common sense which is the main thing you need to pic up
HTML
If you would like me to design an online presence for you to expand on then I would be willing to do so for $50
or will genarate a hole site for you including promotion then I am willing to this at compettitive rates with complete solution
starting at $94.45
