EPOC Pages - Introduction
If you've arrived here via my PalmPilot pages, then you'll know that I'm pretty impressed with what my Palm organiser can do. It's simple, fast and goes everywhere with me. However, there are things that a Palm can't really handle ... largely due to its hardware limitations rather than anything else.If (whilst on the move) I want to do word-processing, handle email, surf the Internet, do on-line banking & shopping or if I want to have more than just a simple text-based medical reference ... then I need something with greater hardware capabilities than a Palm organiser ... in particular I need a larger & higher resolution screen and a decent keyboard.
This is why I'm now using a Psion 5MX (and also a Psion 7) in addition to a Palm organiser ! Actually I find they complement each other rather well. The Psion machines are much more sophisticated than the Palm, but not quite as fast to use and are significantly larger. However, the things I use a Psion for a generally those that require me to sit down and work for a few minutes anyway and so these disadvantages are less important.
So now I can word-process anywhere I go ... but even more impressive is the Psion's abilities for on-line activities ...
There are several ways to get on-line with a Psion and I mostly use my trusty Motorola L7089 Timeport mobile phone which connects to the Psion via an infra-red link making the whole process entirely wireless ...
There is a lot more I could say about the Psions and the EPOC operating system that they run ... however since I am now the EPOC Co-Ordinator for www.PDAMD.com ... then you might as well head over there and read my various ramblings ... I'll just be posting a few of my favourite articles and some details of my own EPOC software projects on this website ...
