FIRST WIN
Saturday's 3-1 win over Newport County ended a run of 6 games without a win
at the start of the season, the third worst opening run in the club's history.
In both the 1938-1939 season and the 1954-1955 seasons the club was winless
in its first 8 league games before ending the run in the ninth games against
Cardiff City Reserves and Hereford United respectively.
PLAYER MERRY GO ROUND CONTINUES
The player merry go round at Chelmsford City continues with three new players
arriving at the club in the last week.
The club have paid a fee of £10,000 to Heybridge Swifts for their highly
rated striker Kris Lee. A further £5,000 will be paid when the player reaches
a goals target. 23 years old Lee was top scorer in the Ryman League Premier
Division last season and was being trailed by Nationwide Conference sides
Farnborough Town and Stevenage.
Lee has signed a 2 year contract with the club.
Ironically Lee's former team mate Simon Parker, who was joint top scorer in
the Ryman Premier with Lee last season, is also on City's books although he
is unlikely to feature in the City side having re-signed for Heybridge Swifts.
Also joining the Essex club is full back Brendan McElholm on a one month loan
deal from Leyton Orient. McElholm, who is 19 years of age, was recently on
stand by duty for the Northern Irish Under 21 side.
Finally City have signed Alvin Watts from Nationwide League side Hayes.
Watts, who is 22 years of age, played 22 times fro the Conference side last
season.
With Freddie Hyatt having already gone on loan to St. Albans City it is
possible that Nicky Haydon, now surplus to requirements, could be joining
Braintree Town.
It is highly probable that there will be more comings and goings at City in
the future as the management team of Paul Parker and Liam Cutbush strive to
find a winning formula. Just 2 of the players who played in City's promotion
winning side last season started the game against Newport County on Saturday.
NEW LOAN SIGNING
City have signed 19-year-old defender Brendan Mcelholm on-loan from Leyton
Orient. The 19-year-old is highly-rated by the Brisbane Road club and
comes
to Chelmsford having recently been on stand-by for the Northern Ireland
Under-21 squad.
CITY SIGN KEEPER (19/07/01)
Chelmsford City have made another significant move in the
transfer market by signing former Queens Park
Rangers goalkeeper Richard Hurst on a two-year deal
from St. Albans. In the meantime, ex-Colchester United striker Gary Bennett is
leaving City to re-join AFC Sudbury for a small fee.
