Branch Activities

The branch has friendly and informal meetings in local pubs on the first Wednesday of each month, when all members are welcome and non-members can come along to see what goes on.
There are also regular, low cost, trips by minibus for:
- surveying pubs in areas we don't often get to
- visiting breweries
- tasting panel meetings
- beer festivals
- county meetings and socials

Social events at the Prince of Wales at Foxfield; a pub with its own brewery, are often attended by branch members, using the train, although it is technically in the Furness branch area.

Our most exciting event each year is the two day beer festival we organise and run. This has been held in December at the Kirkgate Centre in Cockermouth for the last 5 yrs, and it acquired a devoted following. However, Cockermouth has a lot of good real ale pubs with great variety in beers, and many real ale enthusiasts, and CAMRA is primarily a campaigning organisation, so members took the decision to hand this festival over to the Round Table and help them to run it, and focus on Whitehaven, where there is less choice, and less interest in real ale, (although the Bransty Arch has raised awareness). Further details of Whitehaven Beer Festival.

Members organise and run beer festivals enthusiastically, which, although hard work, are greatly enjoyed by all who take part. No matter how unskilled, there is a job for everyone at this, and many hands make light work!! It is good fun and very companionable work

We also take very seriously our responsibility for selecting the pubs whose beer we consider to be of consistently good quality for inclusion in the Good Beer Guide. The opinions of all members are welcomed in the decision making.

See the branch diary page for details of forthcoming activities.
