About the choirParenthesis is an amateur choir of nearly 50 mixed voices. It rehearses, sings and gives several concerts a year in and around Reading, UK. Parenthesis also has an a capella group. The conductor is Valerie Hoppé The Choir gives regular concerts and is open to all, whatever their level of singing expertise and experience; there are no auditions. As well as the main concert programme, we occasionally sing at special events such as weddings, or at fund-raising events for charities. We have a particular attachment to the Hospices movement: the Carols at Asda at Christmas 2005 raised £350 for the Duchess of Kent Hospice. Parenthesis and La StephanelleIn the first week of June Parenthesis will be making its second visit to the village of St Etienne de Crossey, as guests of Chorale la Stephanelle Our first visit took place during the same week in 2003. La Stephanelle then paid a return visit to Reading from 12th to 17th April 2004. ![]() Concert Programme 2005/6

This web site was created and maintained until his death by Eddie Spackman, a friend and member of the choir over many years. Many members of the choir attended his funeral on 11 October 2005, where we sang Rutter's setting of Psalm 23, and parts of Fauré's Requiem. He is much missed. |
