PERSONAL NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
When, in 1994 a new Crosby, Stills & Nash album was released I was very cynical about what it might sound like. After their last studio album, I was a tad apprehensive to say the least.
When I got home, I put in the CD and waited...'umm I thought, next track, ok next track...umm, next track...umm, next, no sod it' and I put it away. A couple of weeks later I tried again, and fairs fair...this ain't half bad.
The opening track "Only waiting for you" is the best thing Stills has written for a long time and as for "Camera" what a track...brilliant. In fact there are only two songs on this album I don't like..yep you guessed them "In my Life" and "Panama". They could have left these off, but those songs aside, the album is great...a true CSN album. It's very reminiscent of their 1977 album "CSN" and I only hope their next one will be as good as this.
It's nice to see Nash taking more of lead role for a change, and is it me or are his songs just getting better and better as time goes on? The remarkably simple but effective title track is like stepping back in time to the early seventies, it's folky feel reminding us of an era long since past. The brilliant "Till it shines" is just another feather in Mr. Crosby's cap and "Street to Lean on" just goes to show what a waste it would have been if we'd lost him to the 'white-devil' all those years ago.
Keep up the good work boys, and don't leave it so bloody long next time!!
