PERSONAL NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS

During the year preceding the release of this album, all was not well in the CSN camp. David Crosby was having a hard time trying to get Capitol Records to accept his new material for a solo album, so much so that they dropped him from their label. Mean while, Stills and Nash were busy writing and recording a joint project.

In fact, at this point you have to feel sorry for David Crosby. Having only one song included on 1980's "Replay" and being pushed out from the Clark, McGuinn & Hillman reunion three years earlier and now being excluded from CSN, this was a low point in his career as well as his personal life.

The fact that Crosby only has one song on this album tells the story for itself. Stills and Nash, presented their finished work to Atlantic, who said that they didn't want a Stills and Nash album and would only consider putting out a CSN album. So, Nash with cap in hand, telegrams Crosby asking him to join them. Hence the best track on this album, "Delta".

On 21 June 1982 Atlantic released this album. The first single "Wasted on the Way" became CSNs' second most successful single to date, and the album was warmly received.

I became very disillusioned with CSN in the early eighties. The unity of their early years was missing. Every where you turned Crosby was in the papers for drug related events, and certainly here in England the three were regarded as ageing old hippies who should just throw in the towel. I'm glad they didn't!!
