PERSONAL NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
This, the classic first album, is considered by most to be not only the groups' finest recording but the total epitome of that era in music. On the 16th June 1969 this album was given to the world, and the world accept it with open arms.
The whole album when played now is a reminder, (to those old enough...I'm only 34!!), of times gone by. A reminder of an era, best remembered in scratchy vinyl for full effect!!
My favourite track from this album, strangely enough, as it took me some time to appreciate his skills, is Graham Nash's "Lady of the Island". A beautiful melody, tricky to play for mere mortals like myself, and like most of the tracks on this album is short but sweet. Another wonderful song, and I might be right in thinking the first song the three ever sang together, is: "You don't have to cry". The first song I learned how to play on the guitar and the song which has been responsible for my life long love of the group and their music.
In my opinion, this is their second best album...the best is...well, you'll find out if you read on.
