Teleworking
and Rural Development
published on January 21st, 1997
This is the final report of a research project commissioned by the Rural
Development Commission from the Institute for Employment Studies. Using
a combination of information derived from interviews with employers and
experts, and cluster analysis of the relevant data, it looks at the characteristics
of four different types of teleworking and plots which English counties
are most likely to be selected as locations for each type.
The report concludes by recommending initiatives which could help to
encourage positive forms of teleworking in rural areas.

The report was written by Ursula Huws, Sheila Honey and Stephen Morris
who are respectively an associate fellow, a research fellow and a research
officer of the Institute for Employment Studies.
