- The
following is a list of reference works on Northamptonshire which
volunteers are willing to search for specific entries. To ask for a
look-up, please click on the name by the reference. Requests should be
specific, giving as much detail as you can. Where possible, please
give information about the sources you have already used so that time and
effort is not wasted on duplicating work.
- Please
don't ask for all references to a common name, or for time-consuming
research. The people who have offered their services are all doing their
own research as well as trying to help you and others!
- To
ensure that your message receives prompt attention please use the words
Northants Lookups in your subject line. It would also help if you
give an indication of which source you are asking for information from.
Many volunteers work on several projects at once and it can be hard for
them to try and guess which one you are responding to. Failure to do so
could result in your request being overlooked.
If you are new to family history research please take time to look at
sites such as Getting started in
genealogy and family history (GENUKI) or The National
Archives which give guidance on
where and how to look for information. Alternatively why not try your local
library. There are several publications which give a comprehensive guide to
researching family history (and taking the time to read them at the beginning
may well save you time!)
Please also remember that it is unlikely you
will be able to find everything you need via the Internet /WWW and you will
still need to refer to printed and manuscript sources.
