Oriental Masters of yester-year were also know for their healing power. One such person, Sensei Usui, a martial arts master of distinction, developed his healing - now known as Reiki - independently of the fighting arts.
Reiki is now practised all over the world by individuals with no experience of martial arts. As a healing system in its own right it can be very effective. However, one should beware of people referring to themselves as "Masters" because some (not all) have very little experience of the system and cannot possibly be "Masters" after only a weekend training course! There is no question that modern Reiki can work, however there are a number of questionable aspects to the application of the healing energy that involves the use of so called "secret symbols".

There is only one type of universal energy and we at Eurokwai refer to this as either Ki or Chi. Nevertheless it can be referred to as Reiki or whatever the practitioner prefers. Ki/Chi is responsible for life and by a simple change of thought processes it can be generated and used in two ways, either for healing or in a harmful manner.
In combat situations Ki can unstablise opponents, knock them out or even cause severe trauma. In a healing situation the energy can sooth, relax and even repair emotional imbalances and serious ailments. It is not meant to be a replacement for orthodox medical treatment.

For patients who prefer not to be touched, energy can be transmitted by the healer who can either be a few feet away, in another room or even in another country.
The mysteries of healing by Reiki and/or any other method are not fully understood, even by the most experienced practitioners. Consequently anyone turning to "alternative" methods of treatment should always remember that there can never be a 100% guarantee of success. Any healer who guarantees success should be avoided at all costs.
