About the Friends
The Friends of Rowntree Park were founded to:
* remember and commemorate the original purpose of the Park
* promote the well-being of the Park
* support and encourage all schemes which will enhance and improve the Park
* support the different interests of the various users of the Park
* encourage appropriate use of the Park by people of all ages
* support the long-term maintenance and development of the Park.
In pursuit of their Aims, the Friends:
* organise the annual Birthday Party each July in association with the City of York Council
* act as a representative body in consultations with the City of York Council
* support the varied programme of events arranged in the Park by the City of York Council
* produce a regular circular letter keeping Friends informed about the Park.

We would like to see a large number of people at our regular meetings during the year. The next business meeting will be held our AGM on 21 Cctober 2009 at the Clementhorpe Community Centre in Lower Ebor Street, starting at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
The Very Young Friends Group - for children under 5 and their parents/carers - continues to flourish. For further information on the Very Young Friends please contact Lara McClure (details below).
Membership of the Friends and its sub-groups for younger members is open to all, and costs just £3 per household per year. Applications for membership should be sent to the Membership Secretary at 104 Bishopthorpe Road, York YO23 1JX, enclosing a cheque for £3 made payable to the 'Friends of Rowntree Park', together with a completed copy of our Membership Application Form (available here in Word and PDF file format).

Mark Coates has started a Flickr group called "Rowntree Park" to enable people to share photos taken in the park. You can find it at:http://www.flickr.com/groups/903018@N23/.
Sara North (left) and Kate Lock (right) collected a certificate on behalf of the Young Friends who were short-listed for the York Community Group of the Year award in October 2005. They were accompanied by Allison Graham (centre) who provided so much support for the group when she worked for the City of York Council. We are currently thinking about the future for the Young Friends and hope to consult our younger members on this in the coming months.
