It was in 1975 that Steve Finn (at that time just a mere lad with stars in his eyes) was first introduced to the country scene by Tim Galvin, a talented drummer from Croydon, Surrey, England. Tim had persuaded Finny, a proficient musician himself, to come along to a Western gig in Sicup because his band was on the look out for a bass player/lead vocalist. Unfortunately Tim had not told Finny that if he were to fill this gap, he would be expected to dress in western clothes.
The night arrived and Finny turned up as planned and got the shock of his life. As he walked into the main function room, two guys attired in full cowboy outfits faced each other at either ends of the dance floor, frozen upright and poised to draw what looked like real guns in their holsters. Finny, who is known to suffer from stomach trouble (no guts) quickly turned round and was never to be seen in Sidcup again! Tim did manage to persuade him to join the band and along with Roger Clark and Brian Murphy they became “Sailing Shoes” and they toured extensively throughout country/rock scene for a number of years.
The following years saw Finny joining or forming a succession of bands until the mid eighties when, by now a seasoned entertainer, he began to compere variety shows. This fresh new direction inevitably led to him writing and performing his own comedy routines and so the second chapter in his career started. By 1986 he now had his own band in which he developed comedy routines and later that year he launched a solo career on the cabaret circuit of Britain and Western Europe.
Now an established entertainer as STEVE FINN - comedian, he has a number of TV and radio credits to his name. A chance remark during a conversation with our owner brought this latest addition to his already sparkling and innovative journey through the world of entertainment. She was looking for a “camp-fire storyteller” and suggested that Steve could take this part but would have to dress for the occasion - DOC FINNY was born!
