You may wonder what kind of a show Boots‘n’Gunn put on, and what makes it that little bit different from other acts on the country scene ?
As the name implies, if you think of it as rhyming slang for Brooks & Dunn, most of the material in the show consists of the greatest hits of this incredible C.M.A. multi award-winning duo, while the remainder consists of songs performed in the style of Brooks & Dunn.
What makes Boots’n’Gunn so different is their presentation of the show. Not only do they dress in the same style as their idols, have customised guitars in the familiar stars & stripes, but they also put on false moustaches and beard, plus an American accent !
Boots’n’Gunn comprises of “Kix Boots” as Kix Brooks and “Tommy Gunn” as Ronnie Dunn, both better known as Colin Fidoe and Geoff Bate of Easy-Rider and The Everlys Experience. They have a reputation as one of country music’s top good-time bands, with Kix especially being known for his sense of humour, and this fun element is an intrinsic part of Boots ‘n’Gunn.
People who are acquainted with Colin and Geoff will recognise the similarity in temperament to Brooks & Dunn, with Colin as the talkative ham and Geoff as more the strong silent type! So why start another project with Boots’n’Gunn when they already have two successful acts in Easy-Rider and The Everlys Experience ? “The reason we chose to do another tribute show”, says Colin, “is that as Easy-Rider people were never sure whether we were line dance / country / pop or a mixture of all three. With a Brooks & Dunn tribute show, as with The Everlys Experience, people know what they are getting from the word go : in this case, pure country rock music. Brooks & Dunn music suits our style of playing and singing, as they include such a variety of rhythms, from heavy country rock to sentimental ballads, all with that unmistakable country sound. We find we enjoy the variation of all three very different acts, and musically it keeps us on our toes.”
