On the Lovers' Walk - and the Ferry, 1900

Lovers' Walk, 1914

Lovers Walks, 1950s

An Edwardian postcard from a painting by the British artist Warren Williams ARCA (1863-1941). The view is of the riverside walk - known as the Lovers' Walk - beside the River Derwent, Matlock Bath. Boats for hire are shown on the river's edge. The pathway connects Willersley Castle to the south with central Matlock Bath. Originally the crossing to Matlock Bath was by ferry or hired boat but things became easier after Jubilee Bridge was opened in 1887.

The artist's dates are from the Brunswick Gallery website
