Preamble   
Pillar boxes started to appear from the 1850’s and we have one of these early constructibns left. Some late Victorian wall boxes still remain but those of Edward VII and George V are rare. Being a rural area, the telephone was relatively late in appearing; whereas Stratford had telephones in 1900, this area had to wait until about 1913.
