What
a great find! My father was at Wickenby - Sgt. Joe Pickering. He was
Flight Engineer flying in Lancaster with pilot Lail Dawley's crew
of Mike Allen (Bomb Aimer), Jock Stevens (Mid upper gunner), Joe Williams
(wireless operater), Ted Percival (Rear gunner) and 'Red' S. Redshaw
(Navigater). They are mentioned in Jack Currie's Book - Battle Under
the Moon and seem to have been quite a 'high spirited' lot!!! I would
love to hear from anyone who knew my father or his crew. He flew his
ops between February - June 1944 and I have all his records and a
personal diary of his Ops. He moved from Leicester to Suffolk in 1966.
Sadly he died in 1990 with Cancer.

Well
researched site full of useful information. I am researching F/Lt
W.A. MEYER D.F.C. KIA on 15/03/1944 on a raid to Stuttgart while flying
for 97 PFF Squadron. He was shot down by a night fighter and crashed
at Zillhausen. Visited the village recently and the crash was the
subject of two very recent local newspaper articles - one as a result
of our visit. Came across your web site in a search for Polaris Flight
Academy - we have his qualification plaque. Sadly he was on the preceding
course (5) so found no photo on your site. He was course commander
after the first course commander was eliminated. I noted in your photo
a Bill REID VC. Coincidently I inherited a signed pencil drawing of
him after his VC award.

This
is a great site and very informative. I am researching my uncle, Douglas
Emmott, 12 sqdn, killed 27/08/1944.
If anyone has any information, I'd be very grateful. Thanks and good
luck.

Came
upon your site by chance. In process of writing story of my uncle
Sgt Peter Thomas Murphy KIA 29th April 1943 12 Sq based Wickenby.
Have visted Wicknby 2 years ago - not a great deal of info available
for that period. I do know other members of crew of final mission
etc but disappointed in not seeing names listed in Personnel List
for 12th Squadron.Very interesting site.

Thank
you so much for sharing all this information about 12 Squadron. My
uncle, Daniel McNicol Thomson (my father's brother) was KIA. Your
records show that he lived in Bentleigh NSW but it was actually Bentleigh,
Victoria. I had no real information about him until now, except that
his plane was shot down in June 1943. I would be interested to hear
from anyone who has any other information about him.

A friend
of my wife lost an uncle on 11/12 June 1943 when ED522 was brought
down over Dusseldorf. It was one of five Lancs lost by 12 sqdn that
night and we have been trying to piece together what happened that
night. Thanks to the hard work and effort you have put into your excellent
web site many of our questions have been answered
as the period we are looking at falls within the time scale of your
site. The crew of ED522 were posted to Wickenby on 5th June and were
lost on their first mission a week later. We still have a lot to find
out but again many thanks for making available the information you
have.

My late father joined 12 Squadron a couple of weeks after Tom's grandfather.
Tom and I share a mutual interest in everything these brave airmen
endured in 1943. My father was fortunate and survived his tour unlike
Tom's grandfather who gave his life in the cause of freedom.

I was
researching Flt Lt BE McLaughlin DFC 12 Sqn pilot and came across
this site last year. The wealth of knowledge and interest in 12 Sqn
Tom has is great. A must see site for anyone interested in Bomber
Command in World War II.

I was
born at Wickenby in 1945 - spent much of my childhood on the airfield
when RAF left - I remember Wickenby bombs being loaded onto trains
at Snelland railway station in 1957 - before being taken out to sea
and dumped!!I found your 12Sqn items most interesting - found it from
Heather Birch website on 97Sqn - Best wishes.
