Rameses II (and the missus)

Day 6. Queen Nefertari's Temple

The Pharaoh Rameses II.

Cut into the side of mountain.....

.....It took 8 years to move them.

Not too sure of the spelling...

These statues were huge!

They were all moved because of the...

.....building of the Aswan Dam.

They were found in the 19th Century...

....nearly covered by sand.

Inside the Temple.

All taken without a flash.

What else is the sand hiding?

The photos don't do the size justice.

And you can still see the colour.

These were magnificent

Smaller statues - but not by much.

From a different angle.

The engravings and the colouring.....

....were marvellous.

His son grew jealous and tried to.....

....erase him from history.....

....as if....

....can't remember the son's name.

Note their children by their legs.

He was the greatest of Pharaohs.....

...and reigned for many years.

The Queen's Temple.

Rameses II had over a hundred wives..

...and sired hundreds of children.

He obviously didn't have many hobbies

She was his number one wife.
