Day 6. Queen Nefertari's Temple |
The Pharaoh Rameses II. |
Cut into the side of mountain..... |
.....It took 8 years to move them. |
|
Not too sure of the spelling... |
These statues were huge! |
They were all moved because of the... |
.....building of the Aswan Dam. |
|
They were found in the 19th Century... |
....nearly covered by sand. |
Inside the Temple. |
All taken without a flash. |
|
What else is the sand hiding? |
The photos don't do the size justice. |
And you can still see the colour. |
These were magnificent |
|
Smaller statues - but not by much. |
From a different angle. |
The engravings and the colouring..... |
....were marvellous. |
|
His son grew jealous and tried to..... |
....erase him from history..... |
....as if.... |
....can't remember the son's name. |
|
Note their children by their legs. |
He was the greatest of Pharaohs..... |
...and reigned for many years. |
The Queen's Temple. |
|
Rameses II had over a hundred wives.. |
...and sired hundreds of children. |
He obviously didn't have many hobbies |
She was his number one wife. |
