PARBOLD COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.  The Annual General Meeting is on Sunday 15th November 2009 at 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall. Elections for the officers and committee will take place at this meeting. Girlguiding Celebrating 100 years and it’s all change at Parbold Rainbows!

We hope that you have had a chance to look at the Centenary Display in Parbold Library.  There are lots of familiar faces there and you can see how much fun the girls have.  1st Parbold & Dalton Rainbows (Wednesday Rainbows) are now meeting on Mondays, 4pm – 5pm - contact Helen Fairhurst on 07840 255070 or email her at   helen.fairhurst@ukonline.co.uk.  2nd Parbold & Dalton Rainbows (Tuesday Rainbows) are now meeting on Wednesdays, 5pm – 6pm - contact Julie Munro on 462532.  Rainbows are girls aged 5 – 7.  At the age of 7 girls can join Brownies – as well as two Rainbow Units, we are lucky enough to have two Brownie Units in Parbold – Monday Brownies meet from 6pm – 7.30pm – contact Lynda Tither on 462708.  Wednesday Brownies meet from 6.15pm – 7.45pm - contact Sandy Smith 463407. 

Girls can join Guides from the age of 10+.  Parbold Guides meet Thursdays 7.30pm – 9.00pm – contact Becky Hickling on 464139.  All of the Units have Waiting lists, so don’t delay!

SURGERY NEWS:  NEW PRESCRIPTION ORDERING TIMES FROM 1ST DECEMBER 2009  There will be a change in the times to order prescriptions over the telephone beginning Tuesday 1st December. Patients will only be able to order their prescriptions between 10.00am and 12.00 noon each day '463126. (They used to be able to order their scripts from 11.30am to 6pm each day so there is a big change here for them).  Postal requests - please enclose an S.A.E. and we will post the prescription to you, or you can request the chemist to collect the script from the surgery and collect from there. Prescriptions can be ordered over the internet by EMIS ACCESS. Appointments can also be made on this site. Information regarding EMIS ACCESS will be given on request. This site is also available via the Practice website.

The Parbold Festival Committee would like to thank all those who helped at this year’s Festival, from those who donated cakes and prizes to those who helped on the day, including stewards and tea ladies.  A special thanks to Christ Church Band who entertained us all with their wonderful songs and to Jon who entertained the children with circus tricks and the Lions who helped put up the bunting. Also, thank you to all those who came to the Festival.  We think a great day was had by all and the sun even shone this year.  The Parbold Festival AGM is to be held on the 19th November at 7.30pm in the Committee Room at the back of the WI.  Everybody welcome, particularly if you have any ideas or suggestions for the Festival.

ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY ‘DROP IN’ GROUPS FOR PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA AND THEIR CARERS

We have set up groups in West Lancs to support people with dementia and their carers. These groups are free and give people a chance to meet and share experiences over a cup of coffee as well as enjoy various activities such as arts and crafts, music, quizzes and much more. Any volunteer helpers  would be welcome.

They will  be held in the PWI Hall, The Common, Parbold  on Friday 13th November 11am – 1pm, then every second Friday of the month  Friday 11th December ,  January 8th  and so on...

HILLDALE COFFEE & CAKE MORNING Hilldale Village Hall Sat 28th Nov 10.30 to 12. Home made cakes, and Tear Fund Stall, PARBOLD FRUIT & VEG with pre-packed selection bags.  Thank you to everybody who supported our Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning in September.  We raised £200!

Parbold Picture House: Subject to licence approval, Parbold Picture House will open on a Sunday evening in late November at 6.30 p.m. with one of the following films: ‘The Godfather’ [digitally remastered re-release], ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and some screenings in the Christmas to New Year holidays including the latest Harry Potter.  Look out for posters & leaflets nearer the day to catch movies on the ‘big screen’ that they were made for!

CHRISTMAS AT THE VILLAGE HALL  y

CAROLS AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE 2009  You are invited to join us for a traditional celebration on Wednesday 2nd December at 6:30pm outside the Village Hall (Please dress appropriately and bring a torch. We will be joined by the Hesketh Bank Silver Band, local schools and uniformed groups.   Mulled wine, soft drinks and traditional Christmas Fayre will be available.  For more information please contact Bev Hayman or Joan Sanders on 01257 464431.

CHRISTMAS FAIR – Saturday 5th December 11am – 2.30pm.  Proceeds in aid of the Hut-on-the-Hill. There will be lots of stalls in the Main Hall selling all sorts of Christmas Goodies, games and Christmas activities for children and a raffle with some lovely prizes.  Father Christmas will be paying us a visit.   Refreshments will be on sale in the Small Hall – home-made soup, bacon and sausage barms and delicious mince pies and cakes.  Come and do your Christmas shopping locally, have lunch with us and enjoy the spirit of Christmas and all in a good cause.  This event is a fund raiser organised by our local Guiding and Scouting units and their many friends and supporters in aid of the new “Hut-on-the-Hill”.

BAKED POTATO SHORTAGE – TRUTH OR URBAN MYTH ? You know how it is, you arrange an intimate dinner party, then an unexpected guest turns up, then another one arrives and then a fireman ! You think you’ve got just enough baked potatoes when there’s a knock on the door and….. well, I think you can guess the rest. Find out how Mrs Puffet, the housekeeper, copes in  “CAUGHT ON THE HOP”, a COMEDY written by the late Derek Benfield, which is being performed by Parbold’s DOUGLAS DRAMA GROUP on Wed 25, Fri 27 & Sat 28 Nov at the WI Hall – Doors open 7.00pm, curtain up 7.30 pm.(please note new EARLIER start time) Tickets £5  and are available NOW,. Parking on Pavements: Please avoid inconsiderate parking – particularly parking in such a manner that wheelchair and pushchair users are unable to get past your car without going out into the road.  If you see a car parked in such a manner, make a note of the registration number and inform the police.  The police may be able to contact the registered keeper to advise them that they have been reported and perhaps they might review their behaviour and park properly in future.
