Parbold Community Association Chairperson’s Report Hello Folks, winter draws on, only 54 more shopping days until Christmas but never mind. Here at the Village Hall, we have some events to take your mind off that. Now a request for anyone who would have an hour or two to spare to help us at the Fleamarket on November 30th and /or December 14th as we could do with a little help. Please call myself or Sue Halton to volunteer. To the excellent cooks among you, we would like to ask if you would make us some home-baked cakes for sale at the Fleamarket as well. Thank you for your support, I'll always wear it. And now Show time: On Saturday 8th November we have the Warrington Musical Society and Halton Orpheus Choir with 85 musicians, and on Saturday 22nd November we have Jimbo the Clown and Father Christmas for the Children. Lastly, a quiz question: Who is the fastest runner in history ? Answer: Adam, he was first in the human race, boom, boom ! See you next month, take care. " Roger Perry |

HUT ON THE HILL NEWSFLASH Wonderful news – we have planning permission for the new Scout & Guide Hut on Parbold Hill. It’s full steam ahead now to get this project literally off the ground. Can you help us by offering some free services or materials – we need plumbing, interior fittings and all sorts of building work and materials. Any donations of money or materials, however small, would be gratefully received. The support we’ve had so far from the local community has been tremendous; we now need to go that extra mile to achieve our dream. We are looking for someone to help us with grant applications. Is this something YOU could do? We are still collecting unwanted bits of jewellery – but now we’re also asking you to clear out those unwanted HANDBAGS - we’re hoping to run another charity stall at Ormskirk market in aid of the Hut. Please ring Sandy Smith 463407 or Nadine Downhill 464809 if you can help in any way. |

CANCER RESEARCH UK – Julie Crompton has been awarded the charity’s highest honour – the Flame of Hope Fellowship Award for her long service to the charity. Many nominations are proposed from all over the country for this award, but very few are given. Julie has been an active, faithful and continuous member of the Parbold and District Local Committee for Cancer Research UK for 41 years – since 1965 when the charity was known as the British Empire Cancer Research Campaign. In that time the Parbold and District Committee have raised over £300,000, much of which has been donated to laboratories in Manchester and Liverpool to support research.
