Parbold Community Association Chairman’s report.     Following many months of applying for grants the P.C.A. have now secured funds of £68,000 towards the final stage improvements to the small hall and toilets.  This project will consist of complete refurbishment to the toilets, energy saving lighting and extra insulation which will help to keep down costs and make the hall more energy efficient.

Unfortunately the funds must be spent before July or the funders may recall the grants and therefore we find ourselves in the unfortunate position of having to close the hall from the 8th June for approximately one week.   We have considered this very carefully and feel we have made the right decision.  I hope all users of the hall and its facilities will understand and “bear with us” as the finished project will enhance the hall for all groups. Thank you for your patience and understanding.    Sue Halton

Text Box: Parbold  Festival  2009 “Journey into Space”
Now is the time to get your free Festival Brochure from the DIY store or the Library and to decide which classes you will enter.  There are plenty to choose from and lots for children too, so let’s make this a bumper year.  Please also think about a deserving recipient for the Joan Draper Cup.  This is awarded to someone who works voluntarily to improve the community in which we all live.  Please state the reasons for your nomination and send them with the nomination to Anne Pryer at
45 Brandreth Drive.  If you are spring cleaning, some of your items may be suitable for the tombola – telephone Anne 462176, Mavis 462050, Ann 462824 or Jenni 462855.
This year’s village-based Festival is on 18th July

Text Box: HELP DIRECT is a new service open to all adults in Lancashire, commissioned by Lancashire County Council. Its purpose is to help people get that bit of extra support they need to stay independent, to keep healthy, to stay in touch with and see friends, to keep their home and garden in good order, to take part in leisure activities or have opportunities to get involved in their local community.
The main aim of Help Direct is to help people get the right practical support, some individual guidance or simply the right information and advice they need before a problem becomes a crisis. We support them to reconnect with community and mainstream services, and also act as a way of promoting these services. We maintain an online Wellbeing Directory (that will shortly be publicly accessible) of all such services within West Lancashire, and operate an advice line, 0303 333 1000, which is open Monday-Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9-1. People can speak to an experienced Advisor at these times who will deal with each call on an individual basis and take appropriate action to resolve the issues, whilst out of hours they can email askus@loc.helpdirectlancs.org.uk and we will respond the next working day. We will also be providing Outreach workers supported by volunteers who will be available in local centres, and are interested to hear from anyone in the Parbold area who might be able to provide such a venue.
