Take this opportunity to review your finances with a local Independent Financial Adviser

How has the credit crunch and the subsequent upheaval in financial markets affected you? This may be just the time to review your own situation. Where is the best home for your savings and investments? Are there areas where you can save on your monthly outgoings?  When did you last address your pension provision?

We offer a free initial meeting which will cover investments, savings, pensions and protection.

Clients of Positive Solutions have the dual benefits of local, knowledgeable advice, backed by one of the largest IFA organizations in the UK. Our aim is to help clients understand, protect and increase their assets.

We meet on Tuesday, 3rd February at 7.30pm. The Speaker is a member of Liverpool CID. His talk is entitled 'Credit Fraud'

NOTICE TO PARENTS RE: JUNIOR DISCO AT PARBOLD WI

Vi Perkins, who has provided the music at the Junior Disco for the last 20yrs has retired due to ill health.  We would like to thank her for all she has done and wish her well for the future.

We are pleased to say that Parbold Youth Club will now be providing the music and we look forward to continuing success with these events. The helpers are the same - school welfare assistants - and the price is still £2.50.  So, if your children are aged 7-13years, let them come along to the next disco on Friday, 13th February, from 7.30 - 9.30pm and have fun.   ¯¯¯

DOES ANYONE WANT TO COME TO OUR “3RD WAY EVENINGS”?…Turn the other cheek, go the extra mile…..” and many other phrases…

They all sound familiar, but could it be that there may have been more to what was being said than meets the eye? If we knew, would it change anything ? How could we apply it today ? Would we want to? Would it be relevant ? Would it change anything ?

The leadership of Parbold Youth Club and “The Rock” (formerly Parbold Elim Church) would like to know if there is any one in Parbold and the surrounding area interested in this. It would effectively be a short series of presentation style sessions, going right back to “basics”, including the ancient Hebrew, Greek, Jewish and Roman cultures to show how people thought, what the relevance was to their society and how it would map onto today’s frantic pace of life.

If there is interest, we would run a 6 week series of sessions, mid week in the evenings. Each session would last approximately one hour. Before we fix dates and book a venue, however, we’d like to know if anyone would actually come along !  If you are interested and have a particular evening that would suit you, please let us know.

Our minimum number to make it viable would be 10 people, in addition to ourselves, and we will be asking our chef to prepare a selection of culinary delights to accompany what we hope will be an interesting and enjoyable series of meetings called the “3rd-way” Evenings. (the name “3rd-way” has been borrowed from the name given to the Community Interest Company that we are starting up to generate funds for the Parbold Youth Club, see:  www.3rd-way.com and www.pycyouthservices.org

There will be no charge for the sessions, but we would place a box discretely at the rear of the hall should anyone wish to contribute to our running costs. If you would like to come along, please contact us on:

Tel: 01257 464129, Mobile: 07976 444238  Email: enquiries@3rd-way.com  Thank you.

è  Parbold Hut-on-the-Hill – moving forwards.  We had great support for the Christmas Fair at the Village Hall in December.  Thanks to that joint fund raising event and to very generous shoppers at Tesco’s Burscough (where the uniformed organisations frantically bag-packed just before Christmas), the Hut Fund now stands at well over £30,000.00 with pledges of work, supplies and professional services to a value in excess of £40,000.00.  We are now very busy with a number of Grant Applications.  We still need your help to be able to start building in May as projected.  Can you raise money for us?  Are you able to offer match-funding for the young peoples’ future fund raising efforts?  Have you some expertise you can offer us?  We are on the final lap now – every single penny counts.  Can you help in any way?  Please contact Graham Downhill on 01257 464809 or Sandy Smith 01257 463407.

COMMUNITY FIRST RESPONDERS - Community First Responders are groups of volunteers who live and work in the local community. They are trained and activated by the North West Ambulance Service to attend certain emergency calls, where time can make a difference between life and death. When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, their chances of survival can drop by up to 10% for every minute that passes. A Responder provides care until an ambulance arrives, usually only a few minutes later. Timely intervention is also key for people who are suffering from choking and injuries that cause loss of consciousness. Responders are provided with suitable equipment and training, so no prior medical knowledge is needed.  If you are interested in being part of a Responder Group, covering the Newburgh – Hilldale – Parbold area and would like an introductory leaflet, please contact Alan Rudge (01257462167 or e mail alanmrudge@talktalk.net) with your name, address and contact number. For the Group to operate effectively, First Responders, Coordinators and Fund Raisers will all be required.
