B2155) Larson, Lars, and Blanchard, Clarence. PATENTED AMERICAN PLANES FOR WOOD, LEATHER, AND THE ALLIED TRADES 1794 to 1934. 3 volumes, 2001-2002. 11” x 8 1/2”, 192+196+188 pages, illustrated throughout with line drawings, black and white and some colour photographs. Presents in an organized manner the currently known plane patents; a 15-year search has turned up more than 1300 patents appertaining to planes. The basic design requirement in selecting a patent for inclusion was a hand-powered device for holding a cutter that was used to plane, pare, shave or shape. The one exception to this broad definition is patents referring explicitly to spoke and/or draw shaves. Soft covers, fine. US$ 90.00 / 59.95 pounds sterling for the 3 volumes.
